Mampong Traditional Council Bans Funerals, Noise-Making Ahead of Late Chief’s One-Week Observation

The Asante Mampong Traditional Council has announced a ban on all public processions, funerals, and noise-making activities within the traditional area, as preparations intensify for the one-week observation of the late Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

The one-week ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025, with the ban expected to remain in force until the completion of the final funeral rites, which may span about a month.

The announcement was made by Barima Osei Hwedie II, Chief of Ejura and Chairman of the Funeral Committee, in an exclusive interview with Atinka News reporter Sofoba Kwame Afrifah on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

He explained that the decision is part of efforts by the Traditional Council to ensure peace, order, and reverence for the late chief as final funeral arrangements are made.

Barima Osei Hwedie II added that the main funeral date will be officially announced after consultations with the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Funeral Committee Chair also commended the Queen Mother of Mampong, Nana Agyakomaa Difie II, and other council members for their active role and guidance throughout the planning process.

To ensure safety during the mourning period, Barima Osei Hwedie II assured the public that security will be tight.

The committee has already engaged the Municipal Security Councils (MUSEC) of the four municipalities within the Mampong Traditional Area.

Each municipality has committed to deploying security personnel for both the one-week observance and the final funeral.

He called on residents and sympathizers to cooperate fully and attend the ceremony in large numbers as a mark of respect for the late chief, whom he described as a visionary leader committed to the growth and development of Asanteman and Ghana.
