The Ghanaian nation is in mourning following the confirmed death of one of its most iconic musicians, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, who passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.
In a statement released by Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., Counsel for the Fosu Family, the news of the legendary highlife musician’s death was made public, bringing an outpouring of sorrow from fans, the music fraternity, and the general public. The statement read in part:
“With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon… Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives.”
Daddy Lumba’s contribution to Ghana’s music landscape spans over three decades, with over 30 albums to his name. He is credited with reshaping the highlife genre, blending it with contemporary rhythms and heartfelt lyrics that resonated deeply with Ghanaians at home and abroad.
Born in Nsuta in the Ashanti Region, Charles Kojo Fosu rose from humble beginnings to become a national treasure. His music, often marked by themes of love, betrayal, spirituality, and social commentary, became the soundtrack of a generation.
Some of his timeless hits include “Aben Wo Ha,” “Theresa,” “Yentie Obiaa,” and “Ebi Se Eye Aduro.”
His unparalleled ability to blend soulful melodies with rich lyrical content earned him a legendary status in the annals of Ghanaian music.
Fans across the country are gathering both online and, in his house, to pay tribute to a man many call the “King of Highlife.”
