Founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has declared his readiness to support President John Mahama should the ongoing constitutional review process permit a third presidential term.
Speaking in an interview on Atinka Morning Drive with host Ekow Budu Sam, Kyiri Abosom said President Mahama’s current leadership approach demonstrates maturity, calmness, and a clear understanding of the country’s challenges—qualities he believes make Mahama deserving of another opportunity if the constitution is ever amended to allow it.
He explained that his position is not driven by political convenience but by what he described as “honest assessment” of Mahama’s performance and temperament in office. According to him, Mahama’s inclusive style of leadership and willingness to engage opposing views have created a political environment Ghanaians can trust.
“If President Mahama gets the nod for a third term, I will support him wholeheartedly — and my party will support him as well,” Kyiri Abosom stated.
He added that Ghana needs leaders who can rise above partisanship and focus on national development rather than political rivalry.
Kyiri Abosom argued that the country is at a turning point, facing economic pressure, unemployment, and delayed development projects. In such a period, he believes continuity—if constitutionally allowed—could provide stability.
Kyiri Abosom maintained that Ghana’s interest must always come before partisan divisions: “At the end of the day, leadership is about the people, not the parties.”
