Local Government Ministry Mourns Passing of Dagbon Overlord Ya-Na Abukari II

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, Ya-Na Abukari II.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the Ministry extended its condolences to the Regent, chiefs and elders of the Dagbon Traditional Area, the royal family, the people of Dagbon, the Regional House of Chiefs, and all Ghanaians mourning the loss.

The Ministry described the late Ya-Na as a respected traditional leader whose reign contributed greatly to peacebuilding, national unity, cultural preservation, and development within Dagbon and Ghana.

It said the late Overlord would be remembered for his role in bringing an end to the Dagbon conflict and for his commitment to peace, wisdom, dignity, and service to his people.

“The passing of such a distinguished traditional ruler is not only a loss to Dagbon but to the entire nation,” the Ministry stated.

It added that the legacy of Ya-Na Abukari II in leadership, reconciliation, and promoting the welfare of his people would continue to inspire future generations.

The Ministry further pledged its support to the bereaved family and the people of Dagbon as they prepare to accord the late Overlord a befitting farewell.
