Tour Coordinator of The Party Crew, Efua Duku Amankwah, has called for deliberate efforts to encourage Ghanaians to explore and appreciate tourist attractions within the country.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie, hosted by Ekow Budu Sam, she said Ghana must first sell its tourism products to its own citizens before effectively promoting itself as the “Gateway to Africa” for international visitors.
According to her, Ghana has more than 200 tourism sites and attractions, yet many Ghanaians have never visited major landmarks in their own communities.
She noted that some residents of Accra have never visited Osu Castle, while others living in Cape Coast have never been to Cape Coast Castle.

Ms Amankwah said domestic tourism must become part of the Ghanaian lifestyle rather than an activity reserved for school excursions.
“The same people who complain about the cost of visiting local tourist sites are sometimes willing to travel to Dubai and spend dollars,” she observed.
She also called on social media content creators to promote the positive sides of Ghana and help showcase the country’s tourism potential.

Ms Amankwah stressed that educating Ghanaians about tourism was key to building a strong domestic tourism culture and making Ghana more attractive to international visitors.
