The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra will be temporarily closed to the public from July 20 to July 31, 2026, to allow for scheduled maintenance works.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday July 15, 2026, the Embassy said the temporary closure will affect the processing of visas and other routine consular services throughout the maintenance period.

According to the Embassy, only life-or-death emergency consular services will be available while the Consular Section remains closed.

The Embassy also announced that all visa appointments originally scheduled between July 20 and July 31 have been rescheduled. Affected applicants are expected to receive updated appointment details from the Embassy.

Despite the temporary suspension of services, the Embassy said applicants who have already received email notifications confirming that their passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad are ready for collection will still be able to pick them up.

Passport and document collection will take place on Thursday, July 23, and Thursday, July 30, between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The Embassy advised members of the public to plan accordingly and noted that normal consular operations are expected to resume after the maintenance exercise is completed.

It further encouraged applicants to check official communication channels for updates and additional information regarding the temporary closure and rescheduled appointments.
