Ghana’s next focus is agriculture, value addition and jobs – Ato Forson after Meeting IFC Chief

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has outlined government’s focus on commercial agriculture, value addition and job creation following an engagement with the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Makhtar Diop.

In a social media post on Wednesday, September 16, Dr Forson said Mr Diop commended Ghana’s economic progress, particularly the reduction in inflation.

According to the Finance Minister, the government’s next steps are to build on the progress made by expanding commercial agriculture and increasing value addition to locally produced goods.

He said these measures are intended to support job creation and strengthen economic activity.

The meeting forms part of Ghana’s ongoing engagement with the IFC to deepen cooperation and attract private sector investment into key areas of the economy.

Dr Forson has previously said Ghana is seeking stronger collaboration with the IFC, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure, as part of efforts to boost productivity and economic returns.

The IFC has also expressed interest in adopting a more targeted approach to its investments in Ghana, with a focus on sectors that can generate stronger economic impact.

The latest engagement comes as Mr Diop visits Ghana from September 15 to 17, 2026, for discussions aimed at strengthening the country’s partnership with the IFC.
