The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has apologised to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Obaatanpa FM and journalists across the country over the alleged attack on the Kasoa-based radio station.
Prof. Asiedu, accompanied by Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), Ablekuma East MP Prince Osei Owusu and other party officials, visited the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra on Monday to formally apologise to the Association.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Asiedu admitted that as a leader he was not above the law and accepted responsibility for the incident.

“My mission was never to disrupt the station’s programme because that is unethical and unconstitutional,” he said. “I render an unqualified apology to the GJA, Obaatanpa FM and all journalists in Ghana.”
He also pledged to cooperate with the police investigation and said he was prepared to engage the station over any financial losses resulting from the incident.
Receiving the delegation, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour said the Association welcomed the Chairman’s decision to engage the GJA and reiterated its commitment to defending press freedom while promoting responsible journalism.

“We accept the apology and urge the Obaatanpa FM team to accept it in good faith. Go and sin no more,” Mr. Dwumfour said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, A Plus commended Prof. Asiedu for taking responsibility and described his apology as an act of leadership and humility.
He stressed that the incident should serve as a reminder that Ghana’s democracy depends on protecting press freedom.
The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to dialogue, accountability and the protection of media freedom.
