The Member of Parliament for Anya-Sowutuom, Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin, has supported over 1,500 first-year Senior High School (SHS) students with chop boxes,mattresses and other educational materials.
The initiative is aimed at helping students prepare for their transition into secondary education and easing some of the financial challenges associated with starting SHS.
Speaking during the presentation, the Legislature said community support was essential to promoting access to education noting that students should not be disadvantaged simply because their families could not afford basic school items.
He said the intervention is intended to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while helping the beneficiaries begin their SHS education with the essential resources they needed.
The MP said his commitment to supporting education in the constituency goes beyond the latest donation, stressing that he will continue to assist constituents, particularly students, whenever the need arises.
He noted that education remains a major priority for him because of its importance in transforming the lives of young people and improving their prospects for the future.
He therefore assured constituents that he would continue to identify and respond to challenges confronting students and their families.
As part of his continued support for students, the MP also announced plans to provide free transportation for students to help reduce the cost associated with travelling to and from school.
The transportation initiative is expected to provide additional relief to parents and guardians while ensuring that students can travel to school without transportation costs becoming an obstacle to their education.
Some Parents and students welcomed the initiative, particularly as the rising cost of educational materials continues to place pressure on families and thanked the MP for the intervention.
Mr. Emmanuel Tobbin’s commitment to education did not begin after assuming office.
He started supporting students and other constituents even while he was in opposition, demonstrating his longstanding commitment to improving the welfare and educational opportunities of young people in the constituency.
