Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and rapper Sarkodie have reignited their long-running tensions, with the two music heavyweights publicly exchanging accusations on X over respect, accountability and their past disagreements.
The latest development began after Sarkodie urged members of his SarkNation fanbase to protect his brand without attacking other artistes or engaging in unnecessary online fan wars. Stonebwoy subsequently responded, questioning whether such advice was consistent with Sarkodie’s actions and principles.
In a lengthy post directed at Sarkodie, Stonebwoy challenged the rapper to name the people he had allegedly disrespected despite associating with them.
He also questioned what Sarkodie believed he owed him, insisting that if their positions were reversed, he would not have contacted Sarkodie without first offering a sincere apology.
Stonebwoy further maintained that working together had never been an issue, regardless of which side initiated the contact. He cited Sarkodie’s team attending his BHIM Festival and said he had also publicly celebrated Sarkodie’s achievements on several occasions.
“WE cannot omit Accountability and Responsibility to the same issues that we seek to fix,” Stonebwoy wrote.
He also accused Sarkodie of having videos and statements that supported his position, adding that there was no need to twist his words.
Sarkodie rejects Stonebwoy’s account
Sarkodie responded by rejecting aspects of Stonebwoy’s account of their private conversation.
He denied telling Stonebwoy that artistes should simply “play along” with situations as long as it benefited them and questioned why Stonebwoy interpreted some of his social media posts as being directed at him.
Sarkodie also pointed to their previous interactions, including inviting Stonebwoy to his Rapperholic show, supporting his milestones and discussing the possibility of working together.
He argued that if he genuinely had a problem with Stonebwoy, he would not have continued reaching out to him, inviting him to shows or publicly supporting his career.
The jollof rice revelation
The dispute has also brought an old incident involving an apology and a plate of jollof rice back into the spotlight.
According to reports on the latest exchange, Stonebwoy claimed that Sarkodie once visited his home to apologise following a disagreement connected to the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
Stonebwoy reportedly said he prepared jollof rice for Sarkodie during the visit, a detail that has since become a major source of jokes and memes on social media.
Sarkodie subsequently appeared to respond to the jollof-related mockery by posting a video featuring preacher Osofo Kyiriabosom delivering a fiery warning. The rapper did not directly explain the post, but it came amid the online reactions to Stonebwoy’s revelation.
2020 clash resurfaces
The latest argument has also revived memories of the 2020 fallout between the two artistes.
Stonebwoy recently revisited the incident during a TikTok Live, claiming that he was badly treated during Sarkodie’s virtual Black Love Concert at Independence Square.
He alleged that he was kept backstage for hours despite being unwell and that tensions later arose involving Sarkodie’s manager, Angel Town. Stonebwoy maintained that he did not intentionally assault Angel Town, although he said he later apologised after being told that his hand had made contact with Angel’s eye.
Stonebwoy further claimed that the incident was reported to the police and that statements made against him included allegations that he had been carrying weapons, claims he disputed.
Angel Town has since entered the current dispute, responding to Stonebwoy’s claims and sharing WhatsApp screenshots which he said provided a different account of how arrangements surrounding a BHIM Festival appearance were initiated.
The renewed exchange marks another escalation in the relationship between two of Ghana’s biggest music stars, with their past disagreements, private conversations and professional collaborations now being debated publicly.
Both artistes have previously shared stages and supported each other’s careers, but the latest social media exchanges suggest that unresolved grievances continue to fuel tensions between their camps.
