Some parents and guardians seeking changes to their children’s 2026 school placements have alleged that they are being asked to pay thousands of Ghana cedis.
The complaints were made at the National Association of Teachers (NAT) Hall, where the placement exercise is ongoing.
One parent alleged she was asked to pay GH¢2,000 per term to have her child moved to the programme originally selected.
Another parent said she was initially told the process was free but was later asked to pay GH¢3,610.
Parents also complained about challenges with the placement portal and postings to schools far from their homes.
One parent said her son was posted to the Volta Region after the portal showed his placement as pending, while another complained about her daughter being posted to the Central Region despite the family being based in the Eastern Region.
The 2026 placement exercise began on Monday, with parents visiting the centre to seek assistance with school, programme and regional placement issues.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and authorities are yet to publicly respond to the specific claims.
