Actress and Kels Media Managing Director Akosua Kekeli has weighed in on the recent tension between Ghanaian music stars Stonebwoy and Sarkodie, describing their public exchanges as a deliberate part of how they navigate the entertainment industry.
According to her, both artistes understand the business side of fame and are intentional about their actions and public image.
“Fame is a drug,” Akosua Kekeli said, adding that “it’s a game plan. Sarkodie and Stonebwoy are deliberate about what they are doing.”
Her comments come at a time when the relationship between the two award-winning artistes has once again become a major talking point following a series of exchanges on social media.
The latest tension followed a post by Sarkodie urging artistes and their fanbases not to engage in toxic online behaviour or attack other brands in an attempt to show loyalty.
Stonebwoy subsequently responded directly to Sarkodie, questioning what he described as the principles behind the rapper’s position.
Stonebwoy referred to a private phone conversation between the two, claiming Sarkodie had expressed the view that artistes could not be forced to uphold certain principles.
He concluded his response with the statement: “Without PRINCIPLE, advice is an OPINION.”
Sarkodie, however, rejected Stonebwoy’s interpretation of their conversation and insisted that he had never suggested artistes should simply “play along” for their own benefit.
He also maintained that he had never deliberately used social media to shade Stonebwoy and pointed to several instances in which he had continued to support or reach out to the dancehall artiste despite their differences.
The renewed disagreement has also brought their previous clashes back into the spotlight.
Stonebwoy recently revisited their 2020 fallout surrounding Sarkodie’s Black Love Concert, claiming that he was treated badly backstage before a confrontation involving Sarkodie’s manager, Angel Town.
He further alleged that the incident was reported to the police and said he now regrets publicly apologising over the matter.
The latest saga also took a lighter turn after Stonebwoy spoke about a past visit by Sarkodie to his home, where he said he prepared jollof rice for the rapper following an earlier disagreement.
The story quickly became a subject of social media memes, with Sarkodie responding by sharing a video featuring preacher Osofo Kyiriabosom.
Amid the renewed attention, Akosua Kekeli also commented on other relationships within the entertainment industry.
She said former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has never publicly stated that he has a problem with Stonebwoy.
She also praised Dr Louisa, Stonebwoy’s wife, saying she is “doing exceptionally well,” while recalling Stonebwoy’s relationship with his former manager Black Cedi.
On Sarkodie, Akosua Kekeli rejected the perception that the rapper is hypocritical.
“Sarkodie is not hypocrite like people say. He understands the business,” she said.
Her comments come as the latest Stonebwoy-Sarkodie exchange continues to generate discussion among fans, with the two artistes offering different perspectives on loyalty, friendship, principles and how disagreements should be handled within Ghana’s music industry.
