The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has reaffirmed its support for Senior Nursing Officer, Nurse Salomey Bafoh, following the decision by the Adenta Circuit Court to deny her bail application and remand her into custody.
The court decision was delivered on Thursday, September 17, 2026, after hearing submissions from both the prosecution and Nurse Salomey’s legal team.
The GRNMA National Council was represented at the court by a delegation led by the Association’s 1st Vice President, Mr Samuel Akolgo, Esq., who was present to monitor the proceedings and demonstrate the Association’s institutional support for its member.
During the hearing, Nurse Salomey’s lawyers advanced arguments in support of her application for bail. The prosecution, however, asked the court to remand her to give investigators additional time to continue with their investigations.
After considering submissions from both sides, the court declined the bail application and ordered that Nurse Salomey remain in custody.
She is expected to reappear before the Adenta Circuit Court on Monday, September 28, 2026.
The GRNMA said the decision was not the outcome its leadership and members had hoped for, describing the development as a matter of serious concern.
Speaking after the proceedings, Mr Akolgo expressed the Association’s disappointment but urged members to remain calm and allow the legal team to pursue the appropriate legal processes.
The Association disclosed that its National Council is consulting with legal counsel to review the court’s decision and determine the lawful options available, including possible measures to help shorten the period of remand and secure Nurse Salomey’s release.
The GRNMA also assured Nurse Salomey and her family of continued legal, emotional and institutional support throughout the proceedings.
It further called on its members to remain united and rely on verified information, cautioning against speculation or commentary that could prejudice the ongoing legal process.
The Association said further updates and directives would be communicated through its official channels as developments unfold.
