Gov’t promises to enforce rent control laws

Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, says government will enforce rent control laws to deal with recalcitrant landlords.
Speaking at a meet-the-press Tuesday, Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea said the president is calling on all Ghanaians to be law-abiding.
According to Atta Akyea, the Rent Control amendment law gives us a clear understanding of how everyone should behave.
“Rent advance exceeding six months could land you in jail for a maximum term of two years. Refusing to issue a receipt for a duly paid rent is a criminal offence. Refusing to issue a receipt for a duly paid rent is a criminal offence,” Samuel Atta Akyea
He added that landlords must be worried about potential tenants from foreign countries and demand covid-19 test clearance reports before admittance.
