Vigilantism: Akufo-Addo operating a gov't of deception – Aseidu Nketia

The General Secretary for the biggest opposition  National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia ,  has accused the Akufo-Addo led government of throwing dust into the eyes of the public with respect to the eradication of vigilantism.

This follows the importation of over 4000 ammunition from Turkey which was intercepted by Port officials last Friday. The NDC has accused the ruling party of being behind the importation to arm its vigilantes.

The two main political parties in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) signed the final Roadmap and Code of Conduct designed to end political vigilantism in the country.

The dialogue was facilitated by the National Peace Council (NPC) facilitated dialogue was supported by the Government of Ghana, the UNDP, the CDD, the IDEG, WANEP, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Christian Council, the Office of the National Chief Imam, Ghana Pentecostal Council etc.

After the road map, it was assumed that the vigilantism in both parties had been eradicated.

But Speaking in an interview with sit-in host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, The General Secretary for opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, said vigilantism has come to stay, adding  that Akufo-Addo is bent on ruling the country with vigilantism.

He explained that the President is only trying to fight vigilantism in the open to win the sympathy of the masses and doing otherwise in the dark.

“ Vigilantism has come to stay. Whoever thought the menace is being managed or eradicated is being lied to. The President of the Republic of Ghana dwells on vigilantism to govern and so until Akufo-Addo is booted out of the system, the menace will still be with us”, he added.

Reacting to the accusations on Atinka FM’s AM Drive,  the deputy general Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, said the accusation is false and asked the general public to treat it as such.
