Farmers Day: Past winners call for recognition

2019 National Best farmer, Charles Gyamfi, has called on government to consider putting past winners on the award planning committee.

The 2020 National Farmers Day which is being held in Techiman Bono Region is under the theme “Ensuring Agri-business Development under Covid-19 – Opportunities and Challenges.

The choice of the theme, which has contemporary significance given the ravaging effect of the virus on socio-economic activities globally, highlights the new orientation for all actors along the agricultural value chain.

The event, which is traditionally held every first Friday of December is being held a month earlier because of the upcoming polls on December 7.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with host of AAtinka FM’s AM Drive Ekourba Gyasi, The 2019 National Best farmer, Charles Gyamfi explained that it’s time the past winners were involved in the day-to-day planning of the annual Best Farmer awards.

He noted that a lot goes into the nomination for one to be crowned a National Best Farmer, and so every best farmer has in-depth knowledge that could help in the organization of the awards.

According to him, the 2018 national best farmer for instance would have been in a perfect position to help with this year’s awards since it’s being held in Techiman.

“ The problem is that none of the award winners are part of the planning committee of the annual farmers day celebration. We are only called to attend the ceremony and of course we are farmers and we love what we do so we will definitely attend.
