President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Dr Roland Affail Monney has commended the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare over the arrest of the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah.

Rev Owusu Bempah was arrested and remanded into Police custody by an Accra High Court after he stormed the residence of Agradaa, in real life, Patricia Oduro Koranteng.

The man of God and four others, Mensah Ofori, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene and Nathaniel Agyekum were together charged with six counts.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against them for threatening to kill Agradaa.

During the arraignment of Owusu Bempah and the three others, it was reported that some journalists were prevented from entering the courtroom.

It was also reported that some journalists were attacked and prevented from working at the court premises by some persons believed to be church members and supporters of the above-accused persons.

But in a statement, the Ghana Police Service apologised to the media over the assault of the journalists at the Accra High Court.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Dr Affail Monney said it was not the first time Owusu Bempah and his men had engaged in such activities but went scot -free.

He recalled that on Friday, March 15, 2019, Owusu Bempah stormed the premises of Radio XYZ in the company of four gun wielding thugs in search of a radio presenter at the station. In the process, the GJA President said the administrator and staff of the station were molested.

He also cited an event on December 13, 2018, when the same man of God stormed Hot FM with some macho men to vandalize equipment but still went unpunished.

“You are a man of God and you know the law, but because of your connections, because of who you are, you went with macho men to Hot FM to destroy things and no one said anything,” he said.

He said despite raising concerns, the authorities and law enforcers did not punish the man of God for what he did.

“With this background, naturally, Owusu Bempah feels he is bigger than life, larger than life, he is purer than pure and whiter than white. If you look at Article 17 clause 1 of the 1992 Constitution, everybody is subject to the law but Owusu Bempah feels that the law is rather subject to him and so it came as a huge surprise that the law is taking its full course,”

Although the GJA has accepted the apology from the Police, Dr Affail Monney said the GJA will pursue the matter until justice is served, knowing that the matter could be swept under the carpet because of the person involved.

“We will pursue this issue, we will pester the authorities until justice is served,” he added.

He expressed belief that concrete action will follow the investigations.
