Players of the Ghana national team that played at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament received $20,000 as an appearance fee.

Instead of 28 players, the Ghana national team only represented 27 players with Mohammed Kudus failing to show up in camp as a result of an injury problem.

Speaking to Starr FM in an interview, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has disclosed that each player received $20,000.

According to him, players did not receive any bonus because the Black Stars did not win any game.

“The players were paid $20,000 as appearance fee, they didn’t earn any bonus because they did not win a single game,” Henry Asante Twum shared.

Ghana played only three matches at the 2021 AFCON where the team lost two matches and drew the other one.

The performance meant that the Black Stars crashed out of the AFCON at the group stage.
