Afram Plains: Nurse delivers baby in bush (photos)

A staff nurse and his colleague have helped a pregnant woman who was in labour to deliver in a bush at Agyata in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region.

According to reports, on Monday around 9:15 a.m, a Fulani herdsman reported to the nurses that “one of their women”, Salamatu Ampadu was in labour in the bush.

The staff nurse, Amos Acheampong together with one Community Health Nurse, Ruby Amenuveve accompanied the man to the scene.

Upon arrival, they saw the baby’s head at the woman’s vulva and quickly moved into action.

The pregnant woman was assisted and in about 12 minutes, she delivered a bouncing baby boy.

Following temporary management of the emergency, the mother and baby were taken on a motorbike for full maternal and newborn care at the Agyata CHPS Zone.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that both Mother and baby are doing well and under close observation at the clinic.

A legal practitioner in charge of the Compliance Unit at the National Road Safety Authority, Lawyer Kwame Atuahene has added his voice to calls on the Ghana Highways Authority to remove tollbooths in the country since they are no longer in use.

He said the tollbooths had become obstructions to motorists and could pose dangers to them, therefore must be removed before they cause chaos.

The Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta, announced that government has abolished all road tolls.

Presenting the 2022 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of government on the floor of Parliament today Wednesday 17th November 2021, Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori Atta mentioned that a new levy will be imposed to make the toll paying more universal.

He mentioned that over the years, the tolling points have become unhealthy market centres, led to heavy traffic on our roads.
