Tragedy struck at Odumase on the Kumasi-Accra Highway, where a collision involving three vehicles has reportedly claimed the lives of about 13 people and left several others injured.
The vehicles involved were said to be a cargo truck loaded with tomatoes, a passenger bus, and a fuel tanker, which officials said was empty at the time of the incident.
While authorities are yet to establish the exact cause of the accident, eyewitnesses say the crash followed an alleged dangerous overtaking manoeuvre that led to a head-on collision.
Rescue personnel responded promptly, freeing trapped victims before transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for medical care. Recovery teams also worked to clear the accident scene.
The collision has triggered significant traffic build-up on the Kumasi-Accra Highway, as security officers and emergency responders remain at the scene conducting rescue and recovery operations and working to restore normal traffic movement.
