KFC Ghana rewards BECE candidates with free meals

Masco Foods Limited, franchise holders of KFC restaurants in Ghana have rewarded 200 candidates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with free meals.


The food distribution which took place today at the premises of St. Patrick High School and the Good Shepherd Academy in Kasoa was to pat the back of candidates who wrote the exams as well as encourage them to aspire for the future.


The ‘twister meal’ distributed by KFC contains fries, a twister and a 300ml bottled coke.


Principal of St. Patrick High School, Mr. Patrick Yaw Ebiram commended KFC for their effort. Mr. Henry Anderson, Principal of Good Shepherd Academy expressed his appreciation by thanking the KFC team for such benevolence.


In her introduction speech, Madam Afua Kissi-Nyame- Marketing Manager, Masco Foods said,“As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we look to extend support to the less privileged and deprived people in the areas we operate in. In this very case we are happy to reward these students who have put in tireless effort in this pandemic. We are giving this to encourage all future BECE candidates.”

Covid-19: Domestic Football to resume October 30 – Akufo-Addo

Domestic competitive football is set to resume on Friday, October 30, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced.

The partial ease of the restriction will see a restart of the Ghana Premier League and the Division One league.

The Matches will ,however, be without spectators.

The President said this in his 17th Update to the nation.

Covid-19: Zero active cases our ultimate goal – Akufo Addo

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the nation’s ultimate goal in the fight against Covid-19 is to record zero active cases.

In his 17th Covid-19 update, the President assured Ghanaians that he will  do everything in his power to protect the nation and stop the import of the virus into the country and limit the spread.

Akufo-Addo revealed that 26 people have tested positive for the virus at the Kotoka International Airport so far.

“Pause for a moment and imagine what would have happened if these 26 positive cases had not been detected and had been allowed to mingle with the population”.

Commenting on the cost of mandatory Covid-19 test, the President said, “Even though the cost of 150 United States dollars per passenger for the mandatory airport Covid test has been criticized in certain  quarters, the value of the test in speed, accuracy and savings for passengers  who no longer  have to bear the cost of the 14 days mandatory quarantine in hotels has been clearly established.”

COVID-19: Ghana's active cases now 554

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has has disclosed that Ghana’s Covid 19 active cases have dropped from the 1000’s to 554.

According to him, the country has conducted 470,730 tests so far.

Out of the tests, he said 45, 258 have recovered and discharged with 279 deaths.

He said there were parts of the country without active cases, pointing Accra, Ashanti Region, Central Region as the ones that have active cases.

He said currently, 20 people are in severe and in critical conditions.

He noted that the number of deaths continue to reduce, adding that there are no patients under care at isolation centres.

President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to continue to observe the safety protocols in order to stop the spread of the virus completely.

He ordered the mandatory wearing of face masks for another three months, adding that the security agencies will enforce the wearing of the masks.

He also said 16 out of the 23 airlines that were prevented from coming to the country have commenced operations in the country.

He said so far 10,061passengers have arrived in Ghana and out of that, 26 have tested positive for the virus.

He therefore stressed the need to observe the safety protocols till the virus disappears completely.

Covid-19: Wearing of nose masks mandatory till Dec 14

The President of the Republic of Ghanaians has announced an extension of the mandatory wearing of facemasks by additional three months.

In his 17th Covid-19 update address, the president revealed that he signed the Executive Instrument to make the wearing of facemask a law on September 14.

He explained that until 14 December 2020, it is against the law for any citizen to be seen outside his home without facemask as part of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

‘The wearing of mask has served us well in the fight against Covid-19,” Nana Akufo-Addo said in his 17 address to the nation on Sunday, 20 September 2020 adding “Let’s wear our mask and do so correctly anytime we are leaving our homes”, he added.

Akufo- Addo's sterling leadership saved us from Covid disaster- Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has attributed Ghana’s success story so far in the fight against the Covid 19 pandemic to the sterling leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

While commending all the agencies, departments and organisations that have collaborated in the fight at an appraisal meeting for members of the National Security Operation Covid Safety Taskforce in Accra on Friday, September 18, 2020, Dr Bawumia said the President’s clear, marching orders to members of government, including the Economic Management Team, have been to do whatever it takes to save lives.

This firm, focused leadership, Vice President Bawumia maintained, has been the catalyst for all decisions taken in the fight against Covid 19 so far, and has saved the country from possible disaster.

“I highly commend all the agencies, departments and bodies that have worked together in this Covid 19 pandemic to ensure that we have kept it under reasonable control. We can all be proud of ourselves.

“But I can confidently state, without any shadow of doubt, that President Akufo-Addo’s firm, focused leadership in these trying times has saved us so far from the disaster that has been seen elsewhere. His focus, his marching order, to save lives no matter the cost, has been the abiding force that has saved us all,” he declared.

“We can be proud of ourselves on our handling of Covid as affirmed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that we are one of the best performing countries in the world. From the decision on the early lockdown, Ghana adopted the 3 Ts (Testing, Tracing and Treatment), enhanced contact tracing, and even the use of drones.

“At every stage of our fight, the President has been at the forefront, guiding and ensuring that all our decisions are geared towards saving lives. We can bring back the economy, but we cannot bring back the lives we would have lost if we had not focused on saving lives.”

The Vice President expressed the appreciation of Government for the inter-agency partnerships, and the organisations and bodies that have collaborated and offered support, including the Church of Pentecost, Ghana Football Association, faith-based organisations and Civil Society Organisations.

Giving an overview of the steps and outcomes so far, the Minister of National Security, Hon Albert Kan Dapaah and his deputy, Hon Henry Quartey, hailed the efforts of the health personnel, which have led to the highest recovery rate in the sub-region and one of the highest in the world, at almost 98%.

GFA delegation visits Offinso accident victims at KATH

A GFA delegation made up Ashanti RFA Chairman Osei Tutu Agyemang (Kotoro), Exco member Fred Acheampong, NJC  member Aminu Abdullahi (Kamarat)and Samuel Otoo of the Ashanti RFA have visited victims of yesterday’s accident at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on Sunday morning.

The juvenile team made up of young players and their handlers were headed to Afrancho having undergone their District Colts football registration exercise at Offinso on Saturday before the vehicle conveying them submerged.

Unfortunately, six of the young footballers passed away while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

 The GFA delegation earlier visited the St Paul’s hospital in Offinso where they met Dr Debrah who explained the extent of injuries the victims at the hospital sustained as a result of the accident.

The delegation  also visited the bereaved families to commiserate with them before going to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to visit other victims who sustained serious injuries.

NDC will prioritize welfare of the aged – Prof Opoku-Agyemang

In the quest to promote the welfare of the aged, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured that the welfare of the elderly would be prioritized by the next NDC administration.


“The welfare of our senior citizens is critical to us,” she said.


Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who gave the assurance during an interaction with aged citizens at the AYA Community Centre in Ampain in the Ellembelle District of the Western region, said the NDC has designed a number of social welfare interventions to effectively care for the aged.


According to Running Mate who regrets the challenges that confront the aged, the NDC will replicate the concept of the AYA Community Centre across the country.


The AYA Community Centre, which has the objective of enriching the lives of aged citizens by providing quality health care and feeding, as well as recreational and vocational engagements in a safe environment, is currently taking care of over 3,000 aged people in Ellembelle District.                    

The Centre also has a food bank that serves daily meals and weekly food items to the elderly and needy people in the communities.


Prof Opoku-Agyemang, commended the Centre for the immense contribution towards enhancing the welfare of the elderly, and assured aged people across the country, especially in communities where the aged are labeled as witches, of similar support.


She commended the beneficiaries for engaging in recreational and vocational activities in the facility, and announced her intention to create a platform for them to share their experiences with the youth.

The Vice Presidential candidate, explained that having their life experiences compiled in a book would enable young people to learn to become productive citizens.


Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who meet the beneficiaries during her campaign tour of the region, was accompanied by former Second Lady, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, and Mr Emmanuel Armah  Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Chief Executive Officer of the Centre, and Mr Sam Pee, former Ghana High Commissioner to India, among others.


Mr Yaaley in his remarks, said the NDC believes that replicating the concept across the country would ensure that the elderly would be comfortable in their old age, and also help to protect them against challenges, such as neglect and labeling as witches.

Mahama installed as Nkosuohene of Apesika


Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, was on Friday installed as the Nkosouhene (Development Chief) of the Apesika Traditional area in the Kintampo South constituency of the Bono East region.

Under the stool name Nana Beyeman Kwame Ababio I, Mr. Mahama was taken through the customary rites by the Chief of Jema and Kyidomhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Council, Nana Amponsah Gyan II.

Nana Amponsah Gyan II explained that the NDC presidential candidate deserves to be honoured as he undertook massive development projects in the area when he was the President of Ghana.

Speaking at a durbar held in honour of Mr Mahama, Nana Amponsah Gyan acknowledged projects such as roads, water and schools as some of the legacy projects of the then government of President Mahama.

The chief was however unhappy that the projects started during the Mahama administration has been abandoned by the Akufo-Addo government.

Nana Amponsah Gyan therefore urged his people to return the NDC to power by voting for Mr Mahama in the December 7 presidential election to enable him continue from where he left in 2016.

For his part, Mr Mahama expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Apesika for the honour bestowed on him.

He said when elected as president in the December 7 general elections, the next NDC government will complete all the abandoned projects.

Tarkwa:Young lady missing since September 15

23 – year-old Hannah Arthur is reported missing.

She was last seen on Tuesday , September 15, 2020 wearing a Khaki shorts and cream colour T- shirt.

Hannah is dark in complexion and 5.7 feet tall.

The family is appealing to Ghanaians to help find her and report to the nearest police station when she’s found.
