Accra East: ECG begins meter replacement exercise, over 250,000 meters to be replaced

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Accra East Region is providing over  250,000 smart meters to its clients to replace some obsolete ones within its catchment area.

The exercise is part of the ECG restructuring process, which aims to ensure the availability of meters to meet service connection requests and reduce system losses.

The smart meter replacement exercise by the Accra East of the ECG, which began Monday, would help provide quality customer delivery to clients within the catchment areas such as La, Cantonments, etc.

The significance of the project is to replace outdated and malfunctioning electricity meters across the Accra East region with advanced Smart MMS-compliant prepaid meters.

The meters, according to the management of the Accra East ECG would go a long way to enable the ECG to generate more revenue as well as allow them to serve customers better by troubleshooting faults.

Addressing journalists, Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company urged Ghanaians not to politicize the replacement exercise, while also emphasizing its importance,  but to support the ECG in carrying out such a mandate to the benefit of the country and reducing power theft.
