Assin North: NPP and NDC buying votes with ‘Amane and Koobi’ – Akpaloo

Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo has accused both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party of buying votes with ‘Amane and Koobi’ at Assin North.

Aside from the above, he said he saw the two parties sharing Wellington boots to voters to influence them.

According to him, despite the vote-buying, his candidate, Bernice Enyonam Sefenu will win the election.

Candidates of three political parties, New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) are battling for the Assin North Parliamentary seat today, Tuesday, June 27.

The seat became vacant after the Supreme Court on Wednesday, May 17, unanimously declared unconstitutional the election of James Gyakye Quayson as the MP for the area.

The highly anticipated by-election was however necessitated after Parliament wrote to the Electoral Commission declaring the seat vacant.

The NPP candidate, Charles Opoku, is number one on the ballot paper, the LPG candidate, Bernice Enyonam Sefenu, is second on the ballot and the NDC candidate, James Gyakye Quayson, is number three.

Speaking with Atinka TV‘s Ghana Nie crew, Mr Akpaloo said,”Those who are talking are not from this town. They are just talking, upon all the ‘koobi and Amane’ they are sharing; they are sharing Wellington boots, I have seen it with my own eyes, both NPP and NDC. They were carrying the items on their heads. They have packed the Amane and Koobi and salt and are sharing them.”

He said because the leaders have made the people (voters) hungry, when they give them something small, they are easily influenced.

Speaking on the recent road construction at Assin, Mr Akpaloo said the construction was only on the major roads, saying even the town roads were very bad and that the construction of the asphalt was no new thing.

For security, he admitted it was enough, commending the police for their huge presence .

Meanwhile, he was sure that Bernice Enyonam Sefenu was the best bet to bring development to Assin North, calling on the people of Assin to vote for her.
