Attacks on NAPO mere character assassination- GES Dep. Director-General

Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, Deputy Director-General at the Ghana Education Service (GES), says some persons are engaged in a deliberate and sustained effort to damage the reputation and credibility of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh.

The comment by the educationist comes after Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, apologized for comments made about Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The apology was after NAPO claimed that no President in Ghana’s history including former President Nkrumah had performed better than President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking at his official unveiling event at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi on July 9, 2024, Dr Opoku Prempeh said not even Kwame Nkrumah has moved Ghana forward and protected it like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“Since independence in 1957, no president has helped Ghana as much as Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. From 1957 to now, not even your Kwame Nkrumah has moved Ghana forward and protected it like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he said.

The comments received backlash from the politicians as well as the general public with others attributing the comment to arrogance.

The Vice-Presidential candidate has since apologized for the comment.

“I wish to emphasize that I never meant to disrespect our former president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, or any of our former heads of state; including my grand uncle and mentor, John Agyekum Kufuor,” he stated.

“I note the concerns raised after my statement, I apologize sincerely and regret any discomfort caused,” the statement said.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Nana Yaw Fianko, Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh said persons calling NAPO arrogant have never worked with him.

“I can say that it’s mere character assassination. I worked in a company and when I started work a staff brought to me a list of persons whose appointment I should terminate. I diligently worked with all of them and guess what, he was the one I sacked first,” he explained.
