President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially launch Ghana’s landmark Free Primary Health Care Programme on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, in a major step toward improving access to affordable healthcare nationwide.

According to a statement from the Ghana Presidency, the event will take place at the Shai Osudoku District Hospital at 10:00 a.m. The initiative is expected to significantly expand access to quality and cost-free primary healthcare services for citizens across the country.

The programme is being described as a transformative intervention aimed at strengthening Ghana’s primary healthcare system and advancing the country’s progress toward universal health coverage.

Officials say the policy will reduce financial barriers to essential healthcare services, ensuring that more Ghanaians can seek early medical attention without the burden of cost.

The launch is anticipated to draw key government officials, health professionals, and stakeholders within the healthcare sector, as the administration outlines its roadmap for implementation.

The Free Primary Health Care Programme forms part of broader efforts by the Mahama administration to improve public health outcomes and build a more inclusive healthcare system.
