Rising Transformer Theft in Tema Disrupts Power Supply – ECG Manager Raises Concern

The Tema Regional Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Emmanuel Ankomah, has raised alarm over increasing cases of theft targeting critical transformer components in the region.

Speaking to the media in Tema, Ing. Ankomah revealed that criminal groups are adopting more sophisticated methods, moving beyond the theft of copper parts to siphoning transformer oil and other essential materials.

He explained that the growing trend of vandalism is not only disrupting power supply to communities but also placing a heavy financial burden on the company due to costly repairs and replacement of damaged equipment.

The ECG official warned that if the situation is not addressed, it could further impact electricity distribution and service delivery in the area.

He called for increased public vigilance and support in reporting suspicious activities to help curb the menace and protect vital power infrastructure.
