Bank of Ghana chases MoMo defaulters

Bank of Ghana (BoG) has warned individuals who took loans from the various MoMo platforms and have deliberately refused to register their sim cards.

According to the central bank, data on all mobile money loan customers are available in the data base of credit bureaus adding that failure to repay such loans will attract negative repercussions on borrowers credit reports.

Warning the defaulters in a statement dated Wednesday 28th September 2022, Bank of Ghana advised borrowers who have discarded their sim cards to contact their telecommunication service providers or respective lenders to discuss repayment arrangement.

“As a result failure to repay such loans will attract negative repercussions on borrowers credit reports and could subsequently adversely affect any chance of obtaining loan facilities from other financial institutions and credit providers in future,” excerpt of the statement said.
