Yam farmers appeal to Govt for  storage facility

The vice chairman of the Ghana National Farmers  Association, Alhaji Yakubu Iddi Mohammed has called on the government to provide farmers, especially those who cultivate yam with storage facilities.

According to him, the market is steadily being flooded with yam, which he believed is likely to affect the pricing of the product.

“When you cultivate and sell it around this time, the price will be lower, you can’t get the money you used in the production, we wish government could establish a storage facility where farmers can preserve their yam for a longer time, this will even prevent the yam from being rotten”.

Speaking to Atinka News Nurudeen Ibrahim, Alhaji Yakubu stated that the Northern farmer’s recent challenge has been a lack of access to agro machines and that the government should make it more affordable for farmers to increase yam and other farm produce production.

He also confirmed that the yam harvest will be abundant in the 2022 farming season.
