Cape Coast Assembly Plans to Restore Victoria Park as Football Park

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has announced plans to restore Victoria Park to its original purpose as a football park.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), George Justice Arthur, made this known during a one-on-one interview with Tobinco Media Group’s Ebenezer Madugu, explaining that the Assembly wants to bring back the park’s rich sporting history.

According to him, Victoria Park is believed to be one of the earliest grounds where football was played in Ghana, and it has produced many great footballers over the years including Ohene Gyan, Micheal Essien and many others.

He said the Assembly is working to convert the facility into a proper football park to support sports development, especially for the youth.

Mr. Arthur noted that restoring the park will create opportunities for young talents to train and develop their skills, while also helping to promote sports and recreation in the metropolis.

He added that the move forms part of the Assembly’s broader development agenda to improve community facilities and revive important public spaces in Cape Coast.

The MCE assured residents that the Assembly remains committed to preserving Cape Coast’s heritage while supporting youth development through sports.
