The Minister of Interior, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has charged members of the Narcotic Control Commission, NACOC, not to substitute their conscience and stewardship for material substances they come across in their line of duty.
HSpeaking at the passing out of newly recruited officers of the NACOC, at Nutekpor in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, the minister tasked the officers not to be only agents of the Commission, but also defenders of the moral and social order of Ghana.
The passing out ceremony was held for the 307 officers who successfully went through six months intensive training in technics and intelligence to detect and arrest illicit drugs and pedlers.
The number comes to augment the strength of personnel to further strengthen the NDC government’s resolve to clamp down on the illegal drugs trade and make Ghana unattractive destination for illicit drugs.
Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, hinted that unlike in the past when security agencies operate individually regarding the fight against drugs, the collaboration has been stepped up through the formation of a committee comprising Immigration, Police and National Scurity in a bid to tight up the fight against the illicit drugs trade.
He stated that further security measures which cannot be divorged to the public have been instituted to bring the phenomenon to its bearerst minimum.
The Deputy Director General of the NACOC, Alexander Twum Barimah, seized the opportunity to warn that any officer found engrossed in bribes or corruption will be sacked outrightly. This, he noted is to make the profession one of the most unique and disciplined one in Ghana.
