Church Elders in Chieftaincy positions draw throne to God – Elder Amo Tobbin

Executive Chairman of the Tobbinco Group of Companies and Presiding Elder at the Church of Pentecost, Dr. Thomas Wyatt Assembly, New Town District, Elder Samuel Amo Tobbin has thrown his support behind elders and religious leaders who take up Chieftaincy roles.

Elder Samuel Amo Tobbin, who is also the Dwantuahene of Wassa Apinto Traditional Area, and bears the name, Nana Kwesi Amo Tobbin opined that when elders and religious leaders take up chieftancy roles  it provides an ideal opportunity for their  throne to be drawn to the Kingdom of God.

According to him , being an Elder and a Chief, one is expected to bring to  traditional governance the values and principles of God to the people. This, he believes is a glorification and honour to the Creator of Heaven and the earth .

“It is an honour to God and it glorifies him that elders would be chiefs……. when elders are enstooled as chiefs they draw the values and principles of God to the throne and as well brings attitudinal change.”

Nana Kwesi Amo Tobbin made these submissions when he graced the swearing-in of the Head of the  Kwahu-Aduamoa Community in Accra and Tema, Nana Afari Mintah I, over the weekend.

Nana Afari Mintah I, known in private life as Elder Kofi Afari Mintah of the Church of Pentecost, Bethel Assembly in the Kokomlemle District ,was sworn in  after going through  initiation rites as custom demands to head the Kwahu Aduamoa community in the Accra and Tema metropolis.

The Founder of the Tobinco Group of Companies whose subsidiaries includes Atinka Media Village(AMV) ,Abii National , Priorty  Insurance  among others, further explained that fusing christianity  with tradition would go a long way to demystify the ancient perception of “satanic or demonic” practices associated with  chieftaincy institution .

Better still, he said it will clear off the perception that most chiefs who put on amulets and talisman around their waist draw their spiritual strength from  earthly powers. According to him even if some chiefs do that, the involvement of elders and religious leaders in chieftancy affairs  would limit such occurrences. Thus,he said  women associations, deacons and deaconesses including elders should be allowed and encouraged to take up chieftaincy positions.

Elder Samuel Amo Tobbin however admonished his  colleague elder, kofi Afari Mintah ,with the Chieftancy tiltle, Nana Afari Mintah I, to be a servant-leader who will be committed to the welfare of his subjects and should not lord himself  over them as he has sworn an  oath of allegiance.
