Concerned NPP Members expose causes of Dome-Kwabenya seat loss

Tensions continue to rise within the Dome-Kwabenya branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a group calling itself the Concerned NPP Members of Dome-Kwabenya have laid bare what they claim are the true reasons behind the party’s loss of the parliamentary seat in the just-ended elections.

At a press conference held at the NPP Constituency Office in Dome, the group, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Frimpong, accused the constituency’s leadership of manipulation, incompetence, and self-interest, which they believe cost the party dearly.

The group pointed fingers at the Constituency Executive Committee (CEC), alleging that their arrogance, gross incompetence, and insensitivity created divisions within the party.

They claimed that instead of working for the collective good, the leadership was more concerned with maintaining power at all costs.

One of the major allegations was the deliberate removal of over 600 polling station executives from the party’s album before the elections, a move they described as a “diabolic act” aimed at favouring the eventual parliamentary candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr.

This, they argued, was the beginning of the party’s downfall in the constituency.

According to the group, several attempts were made to seek justice, including filing injunctions and lawsuits at the Kwabenya Circuit Court and Adenta High Court, However, they claim these efforts were frustrated by party leadership at both the regional and national levels, who allegedly ignored their petitions.

They further accused former General Secretary John Boadu, the Cecilia Dapaah Committee, and current General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong of failing to act on their grievances, allowing tensions to fester within the party.

The group did not hold back in their criticism of Mike Oquaye Jnr, stating that he publicly admitted to manipulating the delegate album to include individuals who were not from Dome-Kwabenya, including known NDC members.

They claim to have video evidence of this statement and challenged the party’s leadership to investigate the matter.

Another key issue raised was the distribution of cash, fridges, and clothes to delegates during the primaries, which, according to them, angered constituents who felt the election had been reduced to a  transactional process rather than a contest of competence.

This resentment, they believe, contributed to voter apathy on election day.

The group also criticized Oquaye Jnr’s failure to reconcile the party after the primaries, stating that his overconfidence led him to ignore calls for unity.

Additionally, they blamed former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo’s absence for playing a role in the party’s defeat but emphasized that Oquaye Jnr failed to reach out to her for support.

Although a committee is investigating the party’s loss across all constituencies and is scheduled to visit the constituency tomorrow, Monday, the group says they have no confidence in its work since it is chaired by the father of their parliamentary aspirant, whom they blame as the main cause of their defeat.

The Concerned NPP Members have called on the National Executives to intervene immediately and restructure the party’s leadership in Dome-Kwabenya.

They have also demanded that none of the current Constituency Executive Committee members be allowed to oversee future polling station and coordinator elections.

According to them, failure to act swiftly could further weaken the party’s chances in 2028.

As internal tensions continue to mount, all eyes are now on the NPP National Leadership to see if they will step in to address the grievances or risk deepening the cracks in one of their previously strongest constituencies.
