Contact tracing for positive cases still on course – Oppong Nkrumah

Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, says although momentum for the enhanced testing has gone down due to clearance of the backlogs, contact tracing for positive cases is still on course.
Government lifted the four week lockdown after it said it had come to a better understanding of the rate of infection of the disease through an enhanced testing programme and the expansion of isolation and treatment centres.
Other restrictions like ban on social gatherings and closure of schools will remain in force, while border crossings will stay shut for two more weeks to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The government also introduced the use of drones to expedite delivery of samples and a new rapid results testing programme. The country has also increased local production of Personal Productive Equipment (PPE).
The authorities have said they will continue to monitor the spread of the disease in the country and impose a lockdown in hotspots if necessary.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi as host, Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said government will continue to conduct contact tracing for positive cases which may sprout.
He noted that the contact tracing was for the initial plan, which was the enhanced testing for over 100,000 people suspected to have contracted the virus.
“We had over 300 teams conducting the contact tracing. The momentum for the contact tracing for positive cases which may sprout up will obviously not be like that of the enhanced testing and contact tracing but we will not relent; we will still go out there and be on the lookout for new positive cases,” he said.
Commenting on Ghana’s covid-19 mortality, Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said some of the infected persons who are deceased died before being diagnosed of the virus.
