“Cooperating Midland” could be saved from further legal action –Xavier Sosu

Renowned human rights lawyer, Xavier Sosu has opined that it may not be necessary now for the woman who was assaulted by a policeman at the premises of Midland Savings and Loans to go to court to seek further justice.

According to him, it would have been prudent to seek the court’s intervention if the bank involved had remained reluctant on the development.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Monday, Mr Sosu said   the bank has the indications that it is ready to cooperate fully to settle the matter amicably.

“For me, I think a further court action is not very necessary, because the essence of going to court is when someone commits a crime and he\she refuses to accept fault that is where we go to court…but in the case where an individual has accepted his\her fault and has decided to settle the matter to right their wrongs, then it would be necessary,” he said.

“But now if the bank is ready to compensate the woman, I don’t think it would be necessary to go to court,” he added.

He, however, said that the act of brutality that was meted out to the woman at the Midland Savings and Loans exposes the unprofessionalism of the police and said it raises questions about the sort of training police personnel receive.

Xavier Sosu, whose legal license was recently restored by a Human Rights Court, further noted that the policeman’s action depicts a lack of proper training adding that a properly trained officer would not have behaved in that manner.
