A military man attached to the security team manning the Ashaiman municipality in ensuring public compliance to the lockdown, has gunned down a mentally ill man Samuel Ofosu popularly known as ‘Yawa’.
The late Samuel Ofosu who is in his late 30s , was said to have approached the military officer and attempted taking his riffle, after he had turned deaf to several warnings from the officer.
According to security report, the military man had directed the deceased to return home, after he was found roaming about flouting the lockdown rules.
Attempt by the officer to persuade the mentally ill man to heed to his warning, turned tragic, as the late Yawa who is reported to have grabbed the riffle of the military officer in an attempt to take it from him, ended up being gunned down.
This led to some brief standoff between some youth and the security personnel detailed there, however the melee was curtailed following the presence of a military backup team.
The remains of the deceased has since been deposited at the TEMA general hospital morgue.
