Coronavirus: MP wants Ghanaians to opt for voluntary testing

Member of Parliament for Juaboso in the Western Region, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has called on Ghanaians to opt for  voluntary testing as part of  measures to manage the coronavirus scare.
Ghana has been  thrown into a state of panic as two persons, a Norwegian and  a Ghanaian based in Turkey, tested positive for  coronavirus  on Thursday.
According to a confirmation statement signed by Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, “laboratory results of the two confirmed cases were received at the same time from the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.”
Some health officials say Ghana’s case  is not surprising as all neighboring countries have reported confirmed cases.
Coronavirus has claimed more than 4947 lives since the outbreak.
Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who is also the Ranking Member for the Health Committee in Parliament, condemned government for failing to educate Ghanaians on the coronavirus prior to Ghana’s cases.
According to him, it’s sad the Health Ministry has not produced a single jingle educating Ghanaians on the need to stay safe and practice safe hygiene over the coronavirus outbreak.
“Government is being insincere about the whole issue, forgetting that the virus does not attack only a group of people. The virus does not know the President of Ghana neither does it know the woman in the village somewhere in a remote area nor journalists,” he fumed.
