Covid-19: NPP will use other alternatives for primaries if … – Buaben Asamoa

Director of communication for the NPP Primaries, (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has asked general public to expect anything with regards to the impending New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) suspended its parliamentary primaries  originally scheduled for April 25, 2020, to elect parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament ahead of the 2020 General Elections.
The decision to suspend the primaries was taken at a National Steering Committee meeting held on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, due to the ban on social gatherings as part of national efforts towards the containment of the Covid-19 epidemic.
“The National Steering Committee, by reason of Article 10(10)(1) of the party’s constitution, is the body responsible for overseeing the daily management of the party, and thus, mandated to ‘act on behalf of the party on urgent matters’ such as in the circumstances we find ourselves as a party and nation owing to the Covid-19 pandemic,” General Secretary for the NPP John Boadu said in a statement.
Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Director of communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, said Ghana is not in normal times and that there are alternatives if the current predicament persists.
According to him, the party does not need mass gathering to hold primaries to elect parliamentary candidates to contest the 2020.
“We are not in normal times and for us in the NPP, anything is an option. The most important thing is that at the end of the day, we are able to elect people to contest the elections. That is our topmost priority”, he said.
