Data Pricing upgrade: Telcos Directed to Upgrade Offers

Beginning July 1, all telecommunications companies in Ghana have been directed to enhance their data bundle offers, following a directive from the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Hon. Sam George.

According to the Minister, the move is part of efforts to ensure better value for consumers and improved network services across the country.

He emphasized that all telcos must invest in upgrading their systems to support the new data offerings, warning that any defaulting operator will face sanctions.

As per the directive, the revised data bundle structures will take effect from July 1, 2025, and include the following changes:

AirtelTigo: All data bundles will receive a 10% increase. For example, the GHS 400 bundle will now offer 236GB, up from the previous 195GB.

Telecel: Also implementing a 10% increase across all data bundles. The GHS 400 bundle will now provide 250GB, a significant boost from the previous 90GB.

MTN: Will implement a 15% increase across its data bundles. Notably, the GHS 399 bundle — previously reduced to GHS 350 for 92.8GB — will now offer 214GB

Minister George stated that the July 1 timeline allows telcos adequate time to reconfigure their systems and align with the updated value offers.

Consumers can expect improved value for money, and the government assures it will closely monitor compliance to ensure all operators meet the new standards.
