Delta variant of Covid found in community- Information Ministry

The Ministry of Information has hinted that the Delta Variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus has been detected in a community where there are no arriving passengers.

In a Facebook post, the Ministry indicated that, “At 10:00hours on Friday July 2, 2021 the Covid-19 task force was advised by the Ghana Health Service, that the Delta Variant of the SARS-Cov-2 virus has been recorded within a community (ie non-arriving passengers) in the latest round of genomic sequencing.”

According to the Ministry, relevant agencies are taking the necessary steps to ensure that spread is contained.

It also made it known that the Positive persons are in good health.

Meanwhile, the Ministry said the task force will provide further details at 13:00hours on Sunday July 4th, 2021.

“The general public is advised to adhere strictly to the covid preventive etiquette while going about permitted activities,” the Ministry stated.

Currently, Ghana has 1,674 active cases after recording 85 new cases.

So far, it has recorded 95,914 positive cases, out of which 93,444 have recovered and been discharged.

However, the death toll is also pegged at 796.
