As part of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, the US Embassy in Ghana, in partnership with Mobile Web Ghana, has commemorated the annual celebration, urging all not to be ashamed to talk about gender-based violence.
The Commemoration of this year’s 16 days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence brought together school children, gender advocates and champions of change in the fight against Gender-based Violence.
The programme was aimed at reducing gender-based violence against women and girls, increasing awareness, promoting advocacy efforts, sharing experience and knowledge innovation and also creating opportunities for discussion on challenges and solutions.
Participants of the programme deliberated on this year’s theme “UNITE! Activism to End Violence Against Women and Girls’’.
Gracing the occasion was the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Accra, Nicole Chulick. She highlighted on the statistics and urged all not to be ashamed to talk about violence against women and girls.
Speaking to Atinka News, Labour Specialist and Gender activist, Bashiratu Kamal said violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in the world that needs to be reported and dealt with.
A survivor of gender-based violence, Clementina Nkrumah, sharing her experience with Atinka TV news said gender-based violence can happen “to anyone at anywhere” within a particular time, hence it is important to report gender-based violence cases.
