Double tracking system to deal with overcrowding – Prof Adei

Renowned academician, Professor Stephen Adei, says the double intake system for new entrants for Senior High Schools (SHS) will solve the issue of overcrowding and shortage of beds.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced that from September 2018, Government will implement the double intake system for new entrants into the country’s public Senior High Schools, which will address the growing numbers of students benefitting from the Free SHS policy.

Professor Stephen Adei in an interview with Atinka FM’s Ekourba Gyasi on the AM Drive Tuesday, explained that the new system, when implemented, will not only increase enrollment, but will also increase contact hours between teachers and students and in the long term, increase productivity which will reflect in exam results.

He applauded the government for the initiative, adding that this double intake system is long overdue.

“This system will also ensure that students get the opportunity to enroll in their preferred schools and ensure the infrastructure challenges in senior high schools especially with the boarding schools, becomes a thing of the past,” he added.

Prof Adei mentioned that the system will not affect exams, adding that Ghana Education (GES) and WAEC can have stakeholder meetings to discuss the way forward.
