DWoSO launches project to empower women on sexual health and gender equality

Developing Women for Skills and Opportunities (DWoSO) Initiative, has launched the Women Integrated Sexual Health Empowerment (WISE) Project in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region, aimed at empowering women to take charge of their sexual health and advocating for gender equality.

The project is designed to educate and equip women with essential knowledge and skills related to sexual health, promoting a pleasure-inclusive and advocacy-based approach to women’s rights.

During the launch, Ms. Beatrice Antwiwaa, Community Outreach Lead for DWoSO Initiative, provided a detailed explanation of the project’s objectives, highlighting its benefits to women and girls in the community. She also sensitized participants on sexual harassment, emphasizing its impact and how to combat it.

The program also featured Ms. Belinda Darkowaah, the District Public Health Nurse, who provided vital education on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraceptives, ensuring participants were informed about safe practices.

Mr. Emmanuel Adu Abankro, a Senior Accountant from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, addressed participants on navigating life after National Service, offering valuable insights into the job market and available opportunities.

Mr. Don Okai Adjei, the National Service Director for the district, also spoke on entrepreneurship and self-employment, encouraging participants to explore various avenues for career growth. He expressed his gratitude to DWoSO Initiative for organizing such an impactful and informative event.

The WISE Project stands as a beacon of empowerment, providing women in Sekyere East with the tools and confidence to advocate for their rights and prioritize their health in the journey toward gender equality.

The WISE Project is a focus initiative by Francisca Nancy Hagan, Executive Director of DWoSO Initiative, as part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship she participated in at Michigan State University.
