EC Chair praises God for a successful compilation of new voters' register

A Prayer and Thanksgiving service towards the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary election was held in Accra on Monday to thank God for seeing the Commission throughout the period of registration exercise and to also ask God to grant the nation a peaceful and a successful election.

Speaking at the service, the EC Chairperson,  Mrs Jean Mensa who underscored the need to thank God for a successful journey so far said had it not been God, the Commission wouldn’t have been able to successfully embark on the registration exercise.

She recounted how the Commission was threatened by some Ghanaians, especially political parties when the Commission decided to compile a new voters register amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mrs Mensa said that the commission received letters cautioning it against the registration with warnings that a lot of people may die after the registration, but thanked God that after the registration,  the number of cases rather dropped.

She also said at the time she  received the equipment to start the registration, she was told it was a rainy season and therefore she could not embark on the registration successfully, but thanks to God, there were no rains for 38 days.

Mrs Jean Mensa was of the belief that if God has seen the Commission through the registration process successfully,  he is sure to see the nation have a peaceful, violent free, orderly,  victorious, timely and one of the most successful elections ever held in Ghana.

Mrs Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, the Prayer Director at Women- Aglow also thanked God for seeing the Commission through a successful registration exercise.

She also recounted how people speculated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  there will be low turnout but the people showed up to have their new ID cards, giving all thanks to God.

She also urged Ghanaians to learn to forgive when someone offends them in order to live peacefully with all.

Mrs Afenyi-Dadzie said the Lord himself will shield Ghana and keep the nation safe, before, during and after the election.

For his part, the Deputy EC Chair, Corporate Services, Bossman Eric Asare urged all to keep the Commission up in prayer.

He said the Commission was entrusting everything to God, also recounting how God has been good to the EC throughout all its activities.

“We have done all we can as a commission but we cannot tell what will happen next. We are therefore entrusting everything to the Lord who has seen us through all these while,” he said.
