The authorities of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) have reacted to challenges with the ECG’s prepayment system.

This comes after customers in the Volta, Kumasi, Accra, Takoradi, Tema, Cape Coast, Kasoa, Swedru, Koforidua, Nkawkaw and Tafo experience some challenges in ECG’s prepayment system.

In a statement, ECG apologized for the anomaly, citing technical challenges as the cause of the issue.

ECG has since called on the customers to exercise patience as the ICT team is working assiduously to return the situation to normalcy.

“The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited wishes to inform our cherished customers that due to a technical challenge which has affected our prepaid metering systems, purchase of electricity credit has been interrupted,” part of the statement read.

The PURC has also assured the general public that it is closely monitoring the situation and is in discussions with the ECG to address the issue.
