Endorsing forms of independent candidates now contracts – Ben Ephson

Ben Ephson,  Ghanaian Journalist and pollster, says apart from the big political parties in Ghana, the other smaller parties as well as independent candidates give contracts to people to endorse their nomination forms.

This statement by Ben Epson follows the disqualification of 5 Presidential Candidates from contesting the presidential elections by the Electoral commission (EC).

The five include Kofi Koranteng (Independent Candidate), Marricke Kofi Gane Independent Candidate), UPP’s Kofi Addai Odike (United Progressive Party) , Kwasi Busumbru (People’s Action Party) and Nana Agyenim Boateng (United Front Party).

The Electoral Commission (EC) says the Committee suspected the possibility of fraudulent signatures of some supporters in some of the disqualified candidates and that it has referred the matter to the Criminal Investigative Department of the Ghana Police.

In an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive,  , Ben Epson, noted that the independent candidates do not have offices and so they do not go to all the regions for their forms to be endorsed.

He added that these candidates have been misled by the people who took the contract to endorse their forms, but failed to do a good job for the candidates.

“Apart from the big political parties who have offices in all the regions, the independent candidates as well as the smaller parties do not have offices and so do not go round but give the endorsement contracts to people who sometimes mislead them,” he added.

He cautioned independent candidates and other smaller political parties to be cautious of persons they give their forms to see to the endorsement process.
