Fire Guts Shops at Madina Zongo Junction

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Wednesday successfully contained a commercial fire that broke out at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra, preventing it from spreading to adjoining buildings.

The fire, which involved three shops located on the ground floor of a one-storey building, was reported at about 4:41 p.m.

A combined team from the Madina and Legon Fire Stations responded promptly, with the first fire appliance arriving at the scene just two minutes later.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 5:00 p.m. and fully extinguished it at 5:25 p.m. No injuries or fatalities were recorded.

Preliminary assessments indicated that one of the shops and its contents were completely destroyed, while the remaining two shops sustained partial damage.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established and is currently under investigation.

The swift and professional intervention by the GNFS was credited with preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures in the busy commercial area.

The incident once again highlights the importance of rapid emergency response and fire safety awareness in densely populated urban centres.
