A National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Akwesi Mensah, has urged the public to stop sharing photos of dead bodies when they attend funerals of their loved ones.

This follows the death of ex-Black Stars winger Christian Atsu.

Right after his body was found, the body of Atsu surfaced online.

The family of Atsu released a presser, urging the public to desist from sharing the lifeless body of Atsu on social media.

Commenting on this on Atinka TV‘ morning show, Ghana Nie with Ama Gyenfa Ofosu Darkwa, Mr Peter Akwesi Mensah described the act as insensitive.

He observed that some people go to funerals and share photos of dead bodies in caskets on social media.

He said it takes self discipline to stop that act, urging people to stop doing that.

“Yes, we have access to social media, but it is not everything that you share, like the Bible said, we have the right to everything, but not everything is allowed, so it behoves on all of us to install discipline,” he said.

Nana Appiah Mensaha, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Communications Team, urged the public to share the sympathy of family members in their quest to share photos of Atsu’s body or any other dead body.

He observed that even at accident scenes, people take videos and share them instead of helping the affected ones, saying it does not help.

“I want to urge us all that in times like these, we should share the family’s sympathy rather than simply spreading sensitive photos so that people know we were the first to share it or break the news,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nana Appiah Mensah called on the authorities to ensure that the law that protects social media is enforced to deter people from just publishing or sharing information that is not authentic.
