Nine branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ablekuma Central Constituency have petitioned the party’s National Chairman over the failure to retrieve their registration books, weeks after verification.
The aggrieved members first went to the Greater Accra Regional Office of the party to protest and express their displeasure with what they described as the regional executives’ handling of the matter.
They later proceeded to the NDC National Headquarters to picket and demand swift action to retrieve the registration books.
At the national headquarters, the members met the party’s Director of Elections and IT, Mahdi Gibrill, who received their petition and assured them that the party would take action to address their concerns.
However, the members said they wanted swift action, stressing that further delays could affect their participation in the party’s upcoming internal electoral processes.
The petition, signed by Abu Abdul-Rahman, Youth Executive for Former CDR 2A and CDR D, was submitted on behalf of members of the two branches.
According to the petition, the management and retrieval of registration books had become a major challenge in the constituency, with several follow-ups allegedly yielding no results.
The petitioners said that although the constituency coordinator, Zarkious, announced on May 9 that submitted registration books were ready for collection, Former CDR 2A and CDR D were excluded from the list.
They said the Constituency Organiser, Ali Bello, had also assured them that the matter would be resolved.
The members are therefore calling for the immediate retrieval and return of the affected registration books, an investigation into their management, and stronger accountability measures.
They are also seeking an extension or grace period for affected branches whose processes may have been delayed through no fault of their own.
The petitioners said their demands were intended to promote transparency, fairness and credibility in the NDC’s upcoming primaries.
The petition was copied to the Greater Accra Regional Executive Committee, the Ablekuma Central Constituency Executive Committee and executives of the two affected branches.
