Two girls aged 11 and 12 planned to kill classmates, dismember them and then drink their blood in order to be close to Satan, police in the US have said.
The youngsters were found with knives at Bartow Middle School in Florida on Tuesday, and were arrested.
Bartow Police Department said the pair planned to wait in a school toilet until smaller pupils entered.
Their aim was then to cut their victims' throats, cut up their bodies, eat the flesh and drink their blood, authorities said.
They intended to finish by stabbing themselves to death.
The warrant said: "The plan was to kill at least one student but were hoping to kill anywhere from 15-25 students.
"Killing all of these students was in hopes it would make them worse sinners ensuring that after they killed themselves… (they) would go to hell so they could be with Satan.
Detectives said the girls hatched the plot while watching horror films at one of their houses over the weekend.
The girls' plan was exposed when school administrators searched for them after they did not show up for class.
Police said the staff members found them in a toilet cubicle and when they brought them back to their offices they found the girls had four knives, a pizza cutter and a knife sharpener.
Extra police officers and guidance counsellors have been drafted into the school for the rest of the week.
No one was hurt but the girls face charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and possession of a weapon at school, among other charges.
They have been sent to a juvenile detention facility.
The school said in a tweet: "School staff quickly responded to a report of suspicious behaviour; the students were taken into custody, and no one was harmed."
