The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a public warning over fake artificial intelligence (AI)-generated videos circulating on social media that falsely appear to feature its Chief Executive Officer, Samuel “Sammy” Gyamfi.
In a public notice, the state agency said it had become aware of the deceptive videos and urged the public to remain vigilant against scammers using AI technology to impersonate public officials.
GoldBod stressed that it will never ask members of the public to send money, transfer funds, pay fees, or disclose their banking or mobile money details through social media platforms, phone calls, or messaging applications.
The Board advised anyone who receives such requests not to engage with the perpetrators but to report the incident immediately through GoldBod’s official communication channels.
The agency further encouraged the public to verify any suspicious communication before taking action, emphasizing the need for increased caution as cybercriminals increasingly exploit AI technology to deceive unsuspecting victims.
“Stay vigilant. Verify before you trust,” the notice stated.
The warning comes amid a growing rise in AI-generated impersonation scams targeting public figures and institutions, with fraudsters using manipulated audio and video content to gain the trust of victims and steal money or personal information.
